Nevada Alcohol Awareness Program
Nevada law requires that in every county with a population of 100,000 or more, or any
jurisdiction that has opted into the program, any person hired to sell or serve alcoholic beverages or act
as a security guard at a liquor-licensed establishment must complete a state-approved training program
and hold a valid Alcohol Education Card (NRS 369.630).
The individual must either hold the card at hire or complete the program within 30 days of hire.
Certification is valid for 4 years, and renewal training is required to maintain compliance.
Steps to Be Compliant in Nevada:
-
Identify whether your county or jurisdiction requires the card:
The requirement applies in counties of population 100,000+ or jurisdictions that have opted in.
-
Ensure staff complete an approved training program and obtain the card:
Choose a state-certified provider and ensure staff complete training and receive the card within 30 days of hire.
-
Maintain valid certification and track expiration:
Cards are valid for 4 years; schedule renewal ahead of expiration.
-
Retain documentation and ensure only certified staff are selling/serving:
Non-compliance can result in civil fines (first violation $500, second $1,000, third $5,000).
