State Program:

Nevada does not require food handler certification at the state level. Food handler requirements are determined locally, and most jurisdictions in Nevada do not mandate formal food handler certification.

Food handler training is mandatory only in Clark County, which operates its own Food Handler Safety Training Card program. All other Nevada counties treat food handler training as voluntary unless specified by local policy.

County Specific Information:

Clark County requires all food service employees to obtain a Food Handler Safety Training Card (Health Card) issued through the Southern Nevada Health District. Employees must complete approved training and then test through the Health District to receive the official card.

Food Handler Safety Training Cards in Clark County are valid for 3 years. Recertification requires retaking the exam.

The county no longer requires Vegas PBS training as of July 1, 2018. Employees may use nationally accredited food handler courses for preparation, but testing must be completed through the Southern Nevada Health District to obtain the required card.
